Vegan MoFo 2013 - Football Food Sunday

Wow, Vegan MoFo is kicking off and I'm bringing back an old favourite for ya, Football Food Sunday. It's still only pre-season but that's not gonna stop me from throwing down with some epic football food.

Yesterday my friend Sal and I went to Clapham's Venn Street Market to check out some of the best Football Food London has to offer. New kids on the block The Mighty Fork opened their stall with a bang earlier this summer and they've been doing a roaring trade in vegan hot dogs ever since.

*Sadly The Mighty Fork has now closed*

When we rocked up yesterday lunch time this was the only stall at the market with a queue and we couldn't wait to join the line and get ordering.

I went for the Sauerkraut Dog which comes topped with, you guessed it, sauerkraut, as well as ketchup and American mustard.

Sal ordered The Big Chilli which comes topped with black bean chilli, jalapeños, diced red onions and American Mustard.

Both dogs were delicious, we loved The Fork's use of 9" tofu wieners rather than a heftier seitan sausage and the choices of toppings were great. They also make a Brew Dog with hot beer sauce, sautéed onions, jalapeños & American mustard as well as a Yasai Dog which is topped with Japanese yasai curry sautéed onions, wasabi mayo and spring onions.

These inventive flavours alongside fast and friendly service are sure to make The Mighty Fork a huge success.

Venn Street Market hosts two more totally vegan stalls on a Saturday, Ms Cupcake...

...and the Vegan Soda Bread stand who sell the most delicious chocolate mud cake in London, if not the world.

We ended our day out with a couple of drinks at a craft beer bar opposite the market. What a rad day and I even made it home in time to lose a quiz!

I am well and truly back in the MoFo game over here and I can't wait to continue with Mac 'n Cheese Monday tomorrow.

  5. Oooo want! I'll be in Brighton and London at the end of September, used to live in Brighton. Sadly I've never wandered much farther than the Camden Market in London, will have to check out the Venn Street Market, does it happen every week?

  6. I love Venn Street - there's another lady there that does a veggie stall occasionally. I was really hoping to get down there this week to try out the Mighty Fork but my weekend got derailed - I'll have to settle for licking the screen til I can get down there another day...

  7. I'm not into football but I'm definitely into football food! I haven't been spending much time in London this summer but have heard a lot about Mighty Fork and desperately want to try one of their dogs. I love Global Fusion too. I've had their quick breads/cakes before and they're so moist and tasty :)
I'm doing weekday MoFo-ing so kick off tomorrow!

  9. I just saw the hot dog on instagram and had to find out more about what you're up to!
Then, for a second when I saw the Brooklyn Brewery bottle I thought you were still in North America - but of course alas, The Mighty Fork is in London! (kind of wish it was here...)

Happy MoFo! Looking forward to the rest of the month :D

  15. There's almost nothing I love better than a great hot dog, and it *has* to be long enough (so many rinky dink dogs out there), there have to be plenty of toppings (I love sauerkraut, onions, mustard, relish, the list goes on) and the bun has to be substantial.

YOUR MIGHTY DOG HAS ALL THOSE THINGS. JEALOUS!!!

    See you around the 'Fo!

  20. I couldn't believe how many vegan options there were at the market! I went for the Brewdog dawg, and it was incredible. Next time I definitely want to try the sauerkraut option. I also picked up a PB snap bar from Ms. Cupcake, it was like a dream day of food.

  23. MoFo! The hot dogs look so good. The hot dog to bun ratio is perfect too - there must always be a bit of hot dog stick out of both ends. The Brew Dog sounds amazing with that hot beer sauce.

    Happy MoFo!

  25. Hey, thanks for the food porn. I have not even heard of the vegan hotdog people. I'd be hoping for too much that they may be gluten free?

I'm signed up for Mofo this year. I'm a MoFo virgin. I'm looking forward to following you.

  26. Those hot dogs look awesome! I am a huge fan of sauerkraut. I would be all over that! There's a bar in LA that does a variety of vegan sausages with loads of creative toppings, and it's one of the things I miss most about the city. It was so fun to go in and have a beer, sausage, and house made potato chips on a late Sunday afternoon.

  27. Hey, I wanted you to know, the photo of the vegan soda bread stall in this post inspired me to try making Irish Soda Bread and now I'm the soda bread master! I just kept going back t that photo and gazing at it because the bread looks so good! I need to blog about it soon!
